So I'm a shave geek...

...and I also accidentally just typed "geek" as "gook", don't think that would go over too well. Anyway, I've probably talked with some of you in the past about my semi-recent fascination with DE (Double Edged) shaving or wet-shaving. About a year ago I really got fed up with paying $24 for a pack of 10 Gillette Mach 3 blades, especially when they really never seemed to give me the type of shave I thought I could get. So I started looking online and doing some research. That's when I stumbled on Shaveblog and ShaveMyFace. I ended up reading these sites for a while, doing some more digging, and eventually finding this whole underground DE shaving society. It sounded strange to take a step back in technology (1 blade), but it was hard to argue with the literal ravings that most people had for DE shaves. So I figured why not give it a try and see what it's like. This was my first purchase

When I got it, the first thing I noticed was the heft to it. This was no cheapo, throw away Mach 3 or Fusion. This thing has the weight behind it to kill a small child if used properly. This was easily the most expensive purchase in my new shaving endeavor, running me about $50. The great thing about this switch though was the new blades. I paid another $50 for 500 blades. That's right, 500! In disposable razor land that would have run me upwards of $1000. I just figure now that I can make these blades last till I'm about 40 before I have to buy new ones.

So I had the core part of my new shaving regimen taken care of, and now it was time to delve into the sordid sordid world of creams and soaps. I used to use Edge Advanced and Aveeno Sensitive, but since I was stepping up to the world of "big boy" shaving I figured I'd try out some of the different options. I had decided to go with a brush and cream since everything I had read made it pretty obvious that a brush is really the only way to go to get a superior shave. So a silver-tipped badger hair brush I did buy! And to go along with the brush I got the cream that seemed to be the consensus for new DE shavers, Nancy Boy. Yeah, doesn't that sound like some manly stuff to put on your face? The stuff is awesome though. The first time I used both the brush and the cream, I literally got the best shave I'd ever had. And, there's a learning curve with DE shaving, so my shaving experience only got better as I learned how to correctly go about shaving my face this new way. Within two weeks I was able to shave up, against the grain of my facial hair for the first time in my life. Seriously, if you're like me and you've never been able to shave against the grain, you owe it to yourself to at least try it this way once; it's a whole new experience.

I've been shaving like this now for almost a year and loving it. The only change in my regimen I've made up to this point is that I bought some mid grade brushless King of Shaves cream from the drugstore to use when I'm just too lazy or in too much of a hurry to take the time with the brush. Of course this shave isn't as good, but it's still 100 times better than it used to be. I know all this stuff sounds metrosexual, and maybe a little bit gay, but it really is worth it., just come feel my face sometime. Not really though.

Sometimes school annoys me

Like today, when I find out I made a 57 on my CSCI test. I've made nothing but high 90s and 100s on the projects and the labs, but once I go in to take the written test, I just get blown away. I was sitting there taking the test wondering where the hell all this information was when we were working on our projects. This is a class that is a pre-req for many many majors, and they teach it like a much higher level programming class. If you're going to test me over transforming for statements into while statements please allow us to get some hands on work with both. All that being said, I've had to drop the class now since the test counted for more than 20% of our final grade. Yeah, I'm not very happy.

Your Friday Assignment

Yeah I know I go on and on about these projects I'm doing, but I figured I'd give you a shot at doing one yourself:

Now have that turned into me by Wednesday. Yeah, I have to decode 77 of those little fuckers.

OMG TGIF, btw.

21 days?! Really?

You get an update, aren't you excited? So I finished up with my homework today at work at about 11:30 and I figured I had time to get in a quick blog before I have to go push in some chairs. I know all my faithful readers come to the site everyday and I let you down by not having new fresh material for you to read. I seriously doubt you'll be getting much of a change though, I'm sorry to say. I've been working on multiple projects recently, more involving drawing little lines all over a map. Not only did I have to draw the lines on the map this time, but I had to decode the information for over 100 sites in order to get the point by which the lines are based. Sounds fun huh? Well it took me over 15 hours of work and I finally finished this week. So what happens then? Oh we get another project that should be just about as long involving the decoding of even more information. Goddam it's tedious, but for some reason I'm still interested in it, and I think that's a good sign.

Football season has started and that means fantasy season is in full swing. Yours truly is 1 - 1 at the moment, but hopefully will be 2 - 1 after beating the crap out of Zig this weekend. I don't have much to work on tomorrow luckily so I should hopefully be able to get you another blog and maybe give you a little more substance then.

Isopleths!

So I figured I'd share with everyone what I just did for the past 2 and half hours.

Yeah, that's about the jist of it. I drew lines between numbers. Sounds easy doesn't it? It's not, when you have over 200 numbers and they jump in values all over the place. My drawing in MS Paint is pretty bad ass though I have to admit. Makes me want to do some editing and turn it into something even cooler. Be right back...

Uh huh. I went there. WATCH OUT FOR THE EVIL MAN-EATING NORTH AMERICAN (sans Canada) CONTINENT! Fuck, I'm awesome.

(edit: I just realized that I put way too many ! in my blog titles. That's going to have to change)

Yes, I'm still alive...

Since my schedule has changed I haven't gotten back in my normal habit of writing my blog everyday that I'm at work. I'm now only at work from 5 - midnight on Thursday, noon - 7 on Friday, and 7 - midnight on Sunday. And right now those times are spent working on homework that I already have stacking up. My classes are pretty boring, at least the Csci and Calc classes are. I feel sorry for everyone in my csci class that has never learned any type of programming, because they really jump right into the material without giving any background. Luckily I have had the most basic of programming experience so I'm not completely lost. I end up having to help quite a few people out in my lab class since the TA can't speak much english, and doesn't seem to understand the questions directed at him either. Calc is tough mainly just because of the fact that my professor is once again struggling with english. He's a really nice guy though, does his best to help out everyone when he can, and even goes lenient on grading to make sure everyone does well. I do have to sit there in class and listen to little freshmen fratties snicker about his accent though and find myself being distracted over and over. I'd really love to just smack a couple of them upside the head one day. The one course that I'm really going to enjoy though is my Weather Forecasting and Analysis class. It's not easy stuff at all, but it's definitely interesting to me and I can't wait to see how I do with it. That's all for now, but I'll try and get back on a regular schedule with these things.

Oh yeah, congrats to Kenneth on his new job at UGA. Also congrats to other people I know who have moved on or are moving on in the very new future.

Sorry all you faithful readers...

...of which I'm sure there's a huge number. It's been 10 days since my 40th post, that's no good. But I'm sitting here at work on Sunday night at about 8 pm and was just observing something that I might as well report on (plus it gives me a chance to show off my badass MS paint skills.) First off, there's a weird guy standing in the reading room to my left, just standing there staring down the hallway to my right. Here's a diagram:

So I first noticed this on the way from the my desk to the bathroom a few minutes ago. I walk by and he's just in this big empty room standing there leaning against a bookshelf staring. I figured he must just be lost in thought and would probably be gone when I came back. Nope. I head back and there he is still. I even just checked again a few seconds ago to make sure he was still there. Of course he is. Now the question is will I make it through till 10 o'clock without him murdering me and everyone else in the building...
